Paint-a-Bin 2015

On 27 September, my YEC team held a community arts event called Paint-a-Bin for the first time. Paint-A-Bin was conceived with the intention to cultivate the habit of keeping our own neighbourhood clean by placing more bins at the HDB void decks of the Telok Blangah estate. We felt that dustbins can also contribute to beautifying our landscape by personalizing them with our favourite colours and shapes. Hence, the painting of bins not only serves to make our neighbourhood more vibrant, but also allows participants to express their creativity through painting and encourages their artistic confidence. Furthermore, residents can find value in personalized dustbins as compared to regular ones and will be more likely to take proper care of the bins that will be placed at their respective HDBs. This event also hopes to be able to bridge the distance between the community and the Arts.

Overall, the whole event ran smoothly and was a success. The turnout for the event was good and the participants enjoyed themselves! Most of them painted really nice bins and I was super impressed! My roomie also came to support me at the event! We were super ambitious and wanted to paint THREE bins even though she only arrived at 2pm! Hahaha, obviously that's not very realistic so we ended up painting 1 bin only haha! Initially, she wanted to paint zebra stripes but I was super unwilling to do so because it would just end up looking black and white! Haha, convinced her to paint a Halloween theme bin which ended up to be really nice!!! The bin would come in handy for publicity for our YEC upcoming Halloween event on 31 October 2015 too :) Killing 2 birds with 1 stone :)

The 4 of us who painted this together!
