A walking tour around Colombo

Waihan and I initially wanted to head down to Anuradhapura for the weekend. However, we could not get the train tickets from Colombo to Anuradhapura as they were all sold out. This is because many of the Sri Lankan buddhists were heading to Anuradhapura for the weekend as it is Posan Poya Day on the upcoming Tuesday (2 June 2015). Hence, we decided to spend our weekend in Colombo.
Started our day at the Pettah Floating Market. Most of the shops were closed though. Not sure whether it's because it's 9am in the morning (too early?) or whether it's because of the upcoming Poya Day.

The Old Parliment Building

Gangaramaya Temple

Sri Kailasanathar Swami Devashthanam - Hindu Kovil
We spent a few hours walking around Colombo city, visiting the temples, walking by the sea (Galle Face Green) etc. The weather was really warm that day and we were more than happy to escape from the heat by chilling at places with air condition :) Haha, I'm not the kind of person who needs to be in air conditioned places, but the heat today was just crazy.

Mixed Fruits Smoothie from Orgo The Eat Healthy Cafe

Double chocolate cheesecake from Cinnanon Grand Coffee Stop
Best cake that I've had in Sri Lanka! The chocolate portion at the bottom is of a chocolate texture rather than a cake texture. I definitely want to come back here for more! This tastes much better than most of the cakes in Singapore.

Chicken Tandoori Wrap from Cinnamon Grand Coffee Stop

Ribbon Cake from Kingsbury Hotel
The ribbon cake is nowhere as nice as the double chocolate cheesecake from Cinnanon Grand. The cakes here aren't up to standard for a 5 star hotel. Haha, the guest beside us took a bite off her red velvet cake and immediately got the waitress to take it away because "it didn't taste anything like red velvet".

Raspberry Macaroon from Kingsbury Hotel
Bought just 1 macaroon, just to try out the taste of it. It was really sweet, too sweet for me actually.
However, the view at Kingsbury is really awesome. Had a pool side view and we could see the sunset at Galle Face Green from where we were seated as well!
After we caught the sunset from the comfort of our seats in the restaurant, we headed back to Pettah Floating Market to meet Haritha for dinner. Haritha brought us to eat Chicken Kottu which is a Sri Lankan dish. Kottu is basically chopped up roti mixed with egg, vegetables and chicken. Thanks Haritha for the treat! :)

First time eating Chicken Kottu

Haritha who helped Wai Han and I finish most of our Kottu because we were too full!
Crashed out almost immediately after arriving back at Misuki Plaza and after showering. Slept for 11 hours :P
